Bua Want to Create History: Kalou
Bua team head coach Epeli Kalou is looking at creating history for his province now that they are one game away from qualifying for the first time to the Tier 1 competition.
Bua will face Yasawa in the Vodafone Vanua Championship semi-final at Subrail Park tomorrow.
“Our goal is to make it to the Skipper Cup since no Bua team has ever made it that far and it has been our dream and something we put together as a team,” said Kalou.
Opposing Yasawa side is also one game away from qualifying into Skipper Cup competition for the 2023 season.
Yasawa had defeated Vatukoula 24-17, last weekend to qualify for the semi-finals.
The Yasawa team was part of the Skipper Cup competition two years ago before they were relegated; they are aware of the expectations when they reach the semi-final stages.
Team captain Moape Qiolevu has been continually reminding the boys of humility since the start of this season.
“We thank the Almighty for everything, I salute the boys for their courage and I acknowledge our families and supporters for always supporting us,” said Qiolevu.
“Be gracious in defeat and stay humble in victory is always a message we remind ourselves after every game.
“We are one game away from qualifying to the Tier 1 competition and we will always maintain how we have always prepared and that is to stay focused on the task and never underestimate our opponents.
Bua had defeated Serua in the quarterfinals 12-10, to secure their place in the semi-final.
Yasawa was the runner-up from the Western pool and Bua was at the top of the Northern pool.
In another semi-final, Macuata will take on Ba to determine the second team that will qualify to the Skipper Cup competition next year.
