Budget consultation: your chance to be part of the decision-making process

-

Every year, the budget team from Ministry of Economy led by the line minister, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, hold extensive budget consultations.

This is not something peculiar to elections year, as some Opposition members want people to think.

Why are these consultations so important? This is a direct opportunity for you to talk about what your expectations from the national budget are.

This is your opportunity to ask about any Government policies you may not be sure about, it is your opportunity to take part in the decision making process.

Before FijIFirst Government, such extensive consultation had not been undertaken.

This time, villagers from Loa in Cakaudrove had the opportunity to talk about the importance of a seawall for the village. They were also informed about how they can benefit from commercial farming of breadfruits, ivi and even mango.

Consultations took place over the past two weeks. If you had not been able to attend a consultation, there are various ways in which you can get your thoughts across to the team which will be putting together the national budget.
