Agroup of women from Natabua seaside, Lautoka are leading the way to make a change in their tight-knit community.

Having part-time jobs or even being completely unemployed did not stop the five women from lending a helping hand to families in need within their community.

Through the advice and assistance from long-time resident, Peter Chongsue, they formed the group ‘New Horizon’. Their aim was to make a change and help those who were in dire need of support.

The group lives by their motto ‘caring for lives, our priority’

With more than 100 residents living along the Natabua seaside, the group of women have laid out plans to assist the elderly and underprivileged in any way possible.

Group member, Ana Tale, 35, a mother to four children, is currently unemployed. She receives outside support to cater for her family’s immediate needs.

Ms Tale said while the focus was on looking after her children, at the same time she wanted to make a difference in her community.

“With the help from Mr Chongsue, we formed this group to help out our community members in whatever way we can,” she said.

“At the moment we are helping him build his home and we are assisted by some men in the community as well.

“At least the little work we are doing here will paint a different picture for our community.”

Mr Chongsue said the idea to form the group was discussed during the pandemic.

“Now that the pandemic is over, we stand ready to help and we will be moving forward with the little projects that we can do in this community,” he said.

“We are readily available for any problem or assistance of any sort that we can help with.”

He added the group was yet to discuss the next project.
