While being insured with a medical insurance policy, one must feel secured and happy.

This was what Saileshni Naidu shared as she complimented the outstanding service of the Fiji Care Insurance Limited.

The 48-year-old has worked at the University of the South Pacific (USP) as the Campus Life Officer since 2016.

FijiCare Medical Insurance is part of the USP staff salary package.

“We have to pay a certain amount from our end and USP pays the rest. I took up that initiative for myself in 2017 and then after a couple of years, I signed up for the family cover,” Mrs Naidu said.

She said she was glad that USP had chosen FijiCare as an insurance company.

“I have lived without insurance for most of my life, and I have spent so much money on the medical aspect of my life, but having this insurance has been good for me because I have undergone certain conditions that required a lot of medical assistance,” she said.

It was a great testimony for Mrs Naidu to get her Hysterectomy surgery done in 2018. This was her first major surgery at Nasese Private Hospital.

The same year, she then got diagnosed with Autoimmune Disease.

“I had to go on various strong medications every day to enable my body to function properly because one of the Autoimmune is Rheumatoid Arthritis and because of that, I’m on steroids,” she added.

“And if I don’t take steroids, I am not able to function. The medical insurance through FijiCare has assisted me in being able to work every day, despite the difficulties from my medical conditions.”

Her recent surgery was done a few months ago in MIOT International at Chennai, India.

She was diagnosed with severe Cataracts due to steroid intake, which makes eye vision worse.

Mrs Naidu said she was advised by a Doctor in Fiji not to get her surgery done in Fiji as she could lose both eyesight.

“I then took this issue to FijiCare and I have to say I did not have to run around at all,” she said.

“I didn’t have to do anything except take my forms to the doctor to fill it out. They basically did everything for me and within two weeks my trip to India was organised.

“My initial choice was to go to Australia for the treatment but FijiCare had a meeting with me and said, to try India as a lot of their clients have gone to India and have come back very happy.

“So I took their advice and I went to India in May this year and my surgery was so successful.

“I went to India with very little vision so I had to take somebody with me to help me out in filling out the forms and getting me from one place to another. I came back with a very clear vision. I don’t even wear glasses anymore.”

She said FijiCare provided her accommodation, airline fares, food and $5,000 cash as pocket money.

“Everyone needs medical care at some point in their lives and the best thing to do is to get insured,” she said.

“Yes, you do pay a certain amount every fortnight or weekly from your own pocket, but at the end of the day, it is about your health and you have a secure life knowing that if there’s an urgent medical need, you have something to fall back on.

A big thank you to Fiji Care for taking care of me and sending me to Miot.

“Just the fact that they went out of their way to meet with me and instead of just saying okay, this is where you want to go, but they made the effort to have a meeting with me and help me choose wisely.”
