Fake article work of sick minds bent on undermining our peace, stability, progress

-

Those who propagate lies via fake articles are sick minds devoid of human decency. They stimulate division and hate and thrive in a climate of fear and discord.

The article in question was vitriolic and instigated to discredit Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama and his FijiFirst Government.

It was a sign of desperation to score cheap political points at the expense of national unity. It was evil and destructive.

The use of religion to cause trouble is repugnant and must be condemned in the strongest possible terms.

This election must be fought on clear and clean policies that bring people together instead of dividing them.

Radical, extreme ideas that serve only to threaten our peace and stability have no place in a democratic election.

The sentiments against a particular faith are particularly alarming and destroy the very essence of religious tolerance.

They are perpetrated by religious bigots and hypocrites who preach their own brand of ideologies that meet their political beliefs.

It’s the same kind of religious fervour that helped precipitate the uprising and demonstrations which led to the coups of 1987 and 2000.

They started with religious murmurings and graduated to ethnic tension and violence against our IndoFijian community.

We should have learned from the experience of those coups and never repeat the same mistakes.

They are dark stains on our history and God forbid we revisit them.

These are the serious implications of irresponsible and unacceptable acts of incitement.

The fake article was designed to incite religious, ethnic and political divisions.

To make matters worse people who were in a position to verify the article did not bother to do it. Instead, they jumped on the bandwagon and spread the lies. Politicians who are contesting the election against the FijiFirst Government turned a blind eye and failed to condemn the fake letter because it suited their agenda.

Everyone, including politicians, has a moral obligation to keep this election clean and fair by doing the right thing - stop manufacturing lies and misleading voters.
