Four swimmers for World’s championship
Four swimmers will represent Fiji at the FINA World Swimming Championships in Melbourne, Australia from December 11-18.
The swimmers are Hansel McCaig, Epeli Rabua, Rosemarie Rova and Kelera Mudunasoko.
This was confirmed by Fiji Swimming president Ben Rova yesterday.
“Prior to attending the World Championships event, the swimmers will attend a Pre Championships staging camp organised by Oceania Swimming in Melbourne from December 6-10,” he said.
“All costs are covered by Oceania Swimming and we are very fortunate that our swimmers and their coach will be joined by other swimmers from the region attending swim sessions, educational /workshop sessions, dry land session and team building exercises.”
The four swimmers will be accompanied by coach/manager Willie Elaisa.
Apart from the four swimmers, FS also has four non-travelling reserves on standby; David Young, Temafa Yalimaiwai, Eden Waqainabete and Vivita Bai.
Fiji Swimming will also be holding its Special
General Meeting to pass its Financial Report next month. “There were understandable delays from the Accounting Firm after the relaxation of COVID-19 and we now able to conduct our SGM to pass our financials,” Rova said.
“We have our Federation elections scheduled for 2023.
Rova indicated FS has also selected its Pacific Games 2023 Provisional Training Squad (PG2023PTS) for next year’s Games in the Solomon Islands.
“This squad will be continuously monitored and the list may change if swimmers do not maintain their positions.
“Our Selection Criteria for 2023 Games has already been released and it’s important for us FS administrators, the swimmers and coaches that we work towards our events, training, preparations, etc. “We have prepared and submitted our preparation budget, it’s not a small budget but it’s one that will help us produce the desired results we are targeting for.
“Fiji Swimming has set its Target as well as its Stretch Target for PG 2023 since 2020 and our preparation plans included those swimmers going to 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games.”
A camp has been planned for the PG 2023 PTS early January.
