Our Navy Hosts Korean Counterparts
RFMF Naval Divisions Commander Marika Vosawale, hosted Rear Admiral Kang Dong-goo, the Commander Cruise Training Task Group of the Republic of Korea Navy, at the Navy headquarters recently.
Rear Admiral Kang was accorded a subaltern guard, briefed on Fijian Navy operations, and also toured the Fiji Navy fleet that were docked by the RFNS Stanley Brown base.
The 2022 Cruise Training Task Group called into Suva Port on a two-day goodwill visit as part of their 110-day cruise around the Indo-Pacific region.
For 2022, the training cruise involves the first Korean-constructed training ship Hansando (ATH81) with combat support ship Daecheong (AOE-58).
The 77th class midshipmen of ROK Naval Academy embarked on the training cruise will be acquiring the necessary skills and capabilities required of elite naval officers under an ideal training environment while onboard ROKS Hansando.
The Republic of Korea conducts Cruise Training annually to not only give an opportunity to midshipmen to experience deep sea navigation training, acquire professional military knowledge, foster adaptability in a workplace, and cultivate international perspectives, but also to establish friendship with visiting nations and host military exchange activities.
As part of their learning experience in Fiji, the Republic of Korea Naval Academy midshipmen also received a comprehensive briefing from Lieutenant Commander Luke Madanavosa, Director of the Fiji Maritime Surveillance Rescue Coordination Centre (FMSRCC) on Fijian Navy history and operations.
