Police have refuted claims made by a secondary school student in Macuata that he was assaulted by Police officers for allegedly possessing dried leaves believed to be marijuana.

It is alleged incident that the Police officer slapped the student on Tuesday afternoon at the school premises.

Police spokesperson, Ana Naisoro, said the claims were not true and their teams had gathered statements from the principal, other teachers and students, who all confirmed no such assault happened.

“This interrogation process happened in front of the senior teachers of the college and consent was given by the accused’s father,” she said.

A Police team went to the alleged student’s residence and his father was brought into the school premises.

Ms Naisoro said both the Police investigating officers and teachers accompanied the alleged student to his home after being questioned.

She also countered the claims made after Police uplifted the medical examination report from Labasa Divisional Hospital on November 17.

It was ascertained that there was no sign of injuries to the student as claimed by parents and the child himself.

“It was revealed that no assault took place at any time while Police officers were questioning the child.”

Ms Naisoro has advised all students not to mislead their families with false information because this painted a negative reputation for Police, teachers and the entire school community.

It was ascertained that there was no sign of injuries to the student as claimed by parents and the child himself.
