Son fulfils father’s restaurant dream
Ritu Raj Narayan, 45, is optimistic that his restaurant business will flourish. Originally from Namou in Nabouwalu, Bua, he fulfilled his father’s dream and started the eatery business at the same location where his dad once operated many years ago.
Also known as Sunni by friends and family he was emotional describing the happiness of witnessing his parents cut the ribbon to mark the start of another business journey.
The ‘Nabouwalu Seaside Tasty Halal’ restaurant began operation recently and last Saturday FijiFirst candidate, Alvick Maharaj, was chief guest.
Mr Maharaj applauded the foresight of Mr Narayan because there was a need for more food eateries to open to cater for the ever-growing demand of boat travellers to the area.
“I wish him all the best in managing this business as food catering is a privilege one plays to satisfy the satisfaction of another person,” he added.
The restaurant is located 200 metres away from Nabouwalu Jetty.
Mr Narayan’s father managed the business for 15 years before it was closed to accommodate their children’s tertiary education.
He was also unable to pay the hike in rental prices.
“Hard work always pays off and this is an advise I give to my children despite the troubles we face,” he said.
“We serve dishes ranging from Indian, Chinese, contemporary European and iTaukei meals.”
Mr Narayan said the location of the restaurant was perfect with ample space for movement.
“I believe in good customer service and for any thriving business, this is the golden mantra which I will follow,” he said.
He rented the property and said he spent $25,000 on the setup, equipment purchasing, advance payment and other associated costs.
The father-of-two children acknowledged God Almighty for spiritual guidance and blessing.
Mr Narayan is also a full-time taxi driver in Nabouwalu.
