For the past three years, Men Empowerment Network (MEN) is advocating Men and Boys overcome their everyday challenges.

MEN is a non-governmental organisation (NGO) that was founded by the group chief executive officer, Paul Morrell.

Mr Morrell said men’s day was an occasion to celebrate boys’ and men’s lives, achievements and contributions, in particular for their contributions to nation, union, society, community, family, marriage, and childcare.

“This NGO was established to enable families to function better. Especially the role of men who have a lot of potential but lack the skill to become a better role model at home,” he said.

He said he wanted to train men to become better sons, brothers, husbands and fathers.

“Creating awareness through therapy, counseling session and sharing experiences will reduce suicide rates, violence, domestic violence, crime and substance abuse and that is the purpose behind this group. We want to help these men.”

He said the motto of MEN was “A Better Man, A Better Family, A Better Nation”.

“We have a group of about 8 to 10 man volunteering to assisting our programmes,” Mr Morrell said.

“We usually conduct training to equip man to become better individuals, mentorship

and counseling.”

He also said men’s day was symbolic because it was a day for men to reflect on what it really meant to be a real man; a day men reflect on their roles and responsibilities towards society.

“This is a day where we need to lend a helping hand to our fellow brothers who need assistance to go through their current circumstances,” he said.

“We need to reflect as a nation on how we can change the mentality of how man view themselves. We need to find solutions to replacing toxic masculinity and rid ourselves of elements that encourage the weaponising of masculinity.”

Mr Morrell said they conducted camps, trainings, counseling, mentor-ship, community outreach, business house outreach to men.

“We have volunteer counselors to help with our programmes. We also have developed training manuals that we give out to the communities per request and this can be used to continue the programme.”

On November 19, International Men’s Day celebrates worldwide the positive value men bring to the world, their families and communities.

This year’s theme for 2022 is “Helping Men and Boys”.
