People of Nadi praised
It is the personality of the people of Nadi that is the foundation of what a resilient Nadi Town has become and will continue to grow into.
These were the words uttered by the chief guest, the Speaker of Parliament, Ratu Epeli Nailatikau while officially opening the Nadi Town 75th anniversary celebration on Saturday.
The theme for the weeklong event is - For a resilient Nadi, yesterday, today and tomorrow.
Ratu Epeli told the residents and supporters of the town that its most important resource was the people.
“It is the people of Nadi who make the town come to life to stay alive and thriving,” Ratu Epeli said.
“You are the first smile greeting bula vinaka to all newcomers that welcome visitors to our shores when they come to our home, Fiji.
“You the people of Nadi are the gateway to the rest of Fiji.
“You live here and give Nadi the personality she has and you maintain a reputation so well that we are now celebrating 75 years of surviving many floods, natural disasters and recession in COVID-19.”
Over the years, Nadi had developed into one of Fiji’s most popular, largest
and unique hubs representing and showcasing well what the rest of the country had to offer.
Partnership spirit
Nadi Town 75th anniversary celebration chairperson, Asinate Dawai, said Nadi Town was a stronghold to national development and it stood out from all towns and cities because the town was filled with partnership spirits across the board especially at the grassroots level.
“We know our strength, we have withstood challenges, there is no other way for Nadi but upwards and beyond,” Ms Dawai added.
“Nadi Town will continue to serve the nation and the industries that pump in millions and billions into our country’s economy.”
