Krishnan aspires to become a legal eagle

-

Sonia Krishnan has set her sights on becoming a lawyer and joining the legal profession to assist members of the community with low income, including representing clients pro bono.

The aspiring youngster is currently completing her Bachelor of Law programme at Fiji National University’s (FNU), College of Business, Hospitality, and Tourism Studies (CBHTS).

Krishnan, who is from Naikabula, Lautoka, is determined to help people in various ways and is actively involved in social service.

“I’m currently the president of the Nakasi Youth Club, where we volunteer to help people in our community. I’m always eager to assist others in any way I can,” said Krishnan.

“These days, you rarely see social work on resumes, so to me, it means that this is one area where we can contribute immensely.”

After graduation and gaining adequate legal experience, Krishnan hopes to become an entrepreneur and open a law firm.

“I received three offer letters to join the law programme, and I chose Fiji National University. At first, going to classes was difficult, and everything seemed unfamiliar, but with time, I was able to settle in and enjoy my studies. I know that I will be a successful person through hard work and dedication,” the 21-year-old stated.

“I believe that no job is too small, as long as you are happy and satisfied with your roles and responsibilities. Everyone works hard for themselves and their families and should be recognised for their efforts. The inspiration to become a lawyer came when I was in Class 6, and attended a workshop. In that workshop the other participants were over the age of 24 and I was the only one who was twelve years old.

“We were engaged in the discussions, presentations and debates and by the end of the workshop, I had already made up my mind to join the legal fraternity.”

According to Krishnan, her parents are the biggest inspiration in her life as they have taught her to always help people in difficult situations.

“A successful person, in my opinion, is someone who helps people in need and by doing good deeds and with patience, the person will taste success in their chosen profession.”
