Along the way in life we meet people who help share our stories to create meaning to our lives. Along that journey we find our true calling with our untapped talents.

Lawrence Bale, 21, from Namukailau Village in the district of Dogotuki, Vanua Levu planned to make nursing his career, but that did not deter him to nurture his passion for music.

From the village of Loa in Vanua Levu where he grew up, to the big city of Suva, Bale chased his dreams in medicine.

Journey

With teachings of his grandparents he left them to further his studies at the Fiji School of Nursing (FSN).

“Sometimes we don’t have much at home, but we don’t complain about it. When you have nothing learn how to appreciate the little things in life,” he said.

“Struggle doesn’t discriminate anyone, whether you have money or not, rich or not, struggles and hardship of life are always unpredictable.”

“I am thankful to God for all that I went through and that has built me up as young man, “he said.

The second eldest of three siblings is thankful to his mum and said he was blessed to have his mother around.

Motivation

He said graduating from Fiji School of Nursing next month, will be a dream come true as he will be setting an example to his peers back in his village and to motivate them in going beyond their limits.

Bale said the secret of getting ahead starts with us, in knowing how to motivate oneself to help accomplish anything we set our mind to.

Passion for Music

Bale said singing runs in his family and was a gift passed down from generations

“Why pursue a career in nursing when I had a gift in music that I could have just pursued.”

He said he was always reminded of his grandfather’s advice. “Education will come and go and it can never wait but if you don’t sing or play any sports now, you can do so in years,” he said.

“If I want to sing I just sing, but when there is an opportunity to study then why not grab that opportunity.”

He said the music he composed best suited the generation of today, their taste and liking because every era had its rhythm.

Bale had released a single music album along with Seru Raco, “Moku Ena Mosi” which has hit more than one million views on YouTube.

Advice

He said the struggles and hardship that we go through was what made us stronger.

He added that the challenging experiences that we go through were the most educational and ultimately beneficial.
