Police gets $15k injection
Despite losing the FMF Sukuna Bowl last year TotalEnergies Fiji’s managing director Dennis-Michael Cuaycong said they have not given up on the Fiji Police Force rugby team.
Yesterday Cuaycong returned to the FPF headquarters yesterday to present a $15,000 cheque to Commissioner of Police Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho for the team’s preparation for the annual Police versus Army Sukuna Bowl match at the HFC Bank Stadium tomorrow afternoon.
The rugby team will be known as the TotalEnergies Police team. Cuaycong said despite their (Police) narrow 17-18 loss against the Republic of Fiji Military Force last year they still returned to sponsor the lawmen.
“This sponsorship emphasises our relationship with Fiji Police Force and the Sukuna Bowl,” he said.
In acknowledging the sponsorship Qiliho said: “We thank TotalEnergies for their kind sponsorship and having that faith in us, we know we are not going to let you down.
“The disappointment of last year’s loss still hurts the force like we played the game yesterday.
“This year is a tough preparation for us but no excuses. The men have been training despite all the operational demand of the Police Force. We are going there to come away with the victory that we desire. He added: “We know the military is preparing well for this also, they have all the time to prepare and they train all the time for their role as the military, so it’s going to be a tough one.
“We will be there to play them on Friday and come out victorious which is the desire of the FPF. We are not going to let history repeat itself.”
The main game kicks off at 5pm tomorrow while the development team will start at 9am followed by rugby league and women’s rugby. Meanwhile, men’s and women’s volleyball, netball and football competitions are underway today.
