Part of the All People’s Party manifesto is to link Fiji closely to Israel and have a Fijian Embassy in Jerusalem and an Israeli Embassy in Suva.

The party’s leader, Pastor Tuiloma Tawaivuna, who is confident of getting into Government, said this would first begin by making agriculture as the backbone of Fiji’s economy.

“Israel is the best agricultural nation in the world,” he said. “They’ve done amazing things and miracles in the desert of how they produce large quantities and qualities of vegetables and fruits in the desert.

“Several things will happen. “Number one, we’ll take our embassy

to Jerusalem, Fiji(an) Embassy in Jerusalem and we are going to have an Israeli embassy in Suva, Fiji, we will have direct flights from Fiji to Israel, military cooperation with Israel, we will send our students for further education in Israel.”

Mr Tawaivuna believed that the FijiFirst party made a wrong decision in choosing tourism as the backbone of Fiji’s economy.

He said because the growth of tourism depended on several factors.

“Especially the weather since Fiji has tropical cyclones, national issues or where there is a coup, or instability in the nation, pandemic like COVID-19 it will strongly affect the tourism industry so we’d rather choose agriculture as our backbone and for that matter we are going to work closely with Israel,” he said.

He said exchange students from Israel would also be invited to Fiji while Fijian students would have the opportunity to pursue their studies in Israel.

He said Israel was going to be Fiji’s closest friend.

“We are based on the Word of God, saying if you bless Israel, God will bless you and if you curse Israel, God will curse you,” he added.
