The People’s Alliance candidate, Filimoni Vosarogo, has urged voters not to waste their votes on minority political parties.

Mr Vosarogo was at Naulukora Hall in Veikoba on Wednesday night.

He said this election was not for smaller parties.

He referred to voter numbers back in the 2018 General Election where at least 12,000 voters had voted for minority parties which did not meet the five per cent threshold.

In the last two elections only three political parties had made it to Parliament, the ruling party FijiFirst, SODELPA and the National Federation Party.

“Before, if political parties did not meet the threshold they would give some of their votes to a party, they favoured, to form government. This is an exercise we no longer practice today.

“It is a contest between big political parties and leaders.

“Party leaders have the power to influence the votes and this can be achieved if they are able to convince supporters on why they should vote for them,” he said. “The Parliament has been dissolved. Now the power of who makes it into government is now in the palm of the hands of every registered voter.

“For every individual to cast their votes in this year’s election that is your right. Also, you have the right to freedom of assembly.

“It ensures people can gather and meet, both publicly and privately. Assemblies can be platforms to advocate for change and to raise awareness about the issues that matter to them.”

Follow the process

The high profile Suva lawyer said those casting their votes should ensure that they followed proper procedure to ensure their vote was valid.

“If you do not vote in the next month’s election and a new government has been formed but you are not satisfied with the decisions being made, you will have to wait for another four years

“You will only be able to have a say on the date given for election. Therefore, December 14 is an important date on the election calendar.

“I am hoping that every eligible voter in this community will have their voice heard on December 14.” Mr Vosarogo said he was confident that his party will form the next government.
