Twelve vessels with about 45 international and local anglers are expected to be part of the Flame Tree Developments sponsored Fiji Islands Classic Game Fishing tournament that gets underway at Denarau today. Club secretary Marc McElrath said there is a possibility of having the number of anglers taking part in the tournament to increase. “Port Denarau now is well-known as venue for exciting and challenging sport of game fishing, some just might opt for late minute entry,” McElrath said.

“All are aware of the facilities at Port Denarau, and the favourable proximity to the surrounding deep water fishing areas,” he said. “With over $10,000 worth of prizes and various trophies up for grabs, the event promises to be highly competitive and exciting. “Majority of the anglers no doubt would be focusing their efforts on targeting billfish for maximum points.”

This tournament is organised by the Denarau Game & Sports Fishing Club, it offers offshore sport fishers a weekend to experience the rush of screaming reels and bent rods.

Boats will depart Denarau Marina daily at 6am and return by 5 pm each evening for the daily weigh in spectacle.

Here the day’s catches are weighed and points awarded to participating anglers. Spectators are welcome to come and witness some of the surrounding oceans’ bigger catches. Awards are scheduled for Sunday evening.

For registration, details or further information please see the Denarau Game & Sports Fishing website or Facebook page or call Marc McElrath on 9997 230.
