Clement Victor credited his family’s relentless support for his ability to graduate with a Bachelor of Education (Primary) from the Fulton Adventist University College.

The 26-year-old was one of the 79 graduates who received their certificates during the graduation ceremony Sabeto, Nadi Campus yesterday.

“I’ve studied here for five years. After the first year I went home because of suspension. Then I had to come again, then sort out financial issues, then I went back home, then this year I came back again,” he said.

“So, those past years have been a struggle since coming in with new students. I had to re-engage, look at myself and come back to school. I’m so grateful. With those five years, I still thank the Lord for his guidance and plus my family as well for the endless support.”

Positive influence

He said he chose to become a teacher to positively influence the characters of the younger generation.

“I saw that kids are no longer like before, they have been tempted by the world, so what motivated me to carry on was, to change students in the classroom, their lives, their characters, their values, and their morale as well,” he said.

The Kadavu native plans to join the workforce in the weeks that follow his recent graduation.

“We’ve done our job test last week, we had our licence approved from the FTRA (Fiji Teachers Registration Authority) so I’m ready to be posted next year,” he said.

He urged students who may be reluctant to further their education to be more optimistic.

“Education has no limits, I can say, whether you are failing or still trying to go on, you have problems financially with money for other things, keep on continuing. Finally, you will reach the end, you will finish the race eventually,” he said. Proud mother, Salanieta Victor, said she was humbled by her son’s achievement

“I thank the Lord because during COVID-19 he came out to be strong and persevered to be where he is now.

Those are big achievements for us and we just thank the Lord for all that he has done,” she said. “Though he was admitted for TB (Tuberculosis) during his practicum this year, I thank God, it is just through him he was able to achieve and complete his studies.”
