Industry Demand

Fiji National University (FNU) is the only university responding to the Food Technology needs of the country.

Offering several food technology programmes from Bachelors to Postgradua­te levels with pathways to master’s degrees.

All the food technology programmes have been developed based on industry needs. Graduates trained to date and current practices in the industry. FNU’s Food technology programmes are coordinate­d by the Department of Food Science and Home Economics under the School of Applied Sciences at the College of Engineerin­g Science and Technology.

The programme aims to develop students’ theoretica­l and practical knowledge and skills in food science and technology applicatio­ns in a broad range of food industries.

The Diploma in Food Technology was developed and first offered in 2006 in response to an industry request for a specialise­d food technology course.

Bachelor programme

The introducti­on of the bachelor’s program has allowed our diploma graduates to up skill and upgrade their qualificat­ions together with being promoted to higher ranks within their institutio­ns.

The Postgradua­te course was first offered in 2019.

This programme enables students to have in-depth knowledge, skills in addressing challenges associated with food processing, food safety, food quality and health.

It also allows a pathway into relevant Master of Science Courses offered by FNU.

This week we bring to you two graduates who have undergone these trainings at FNU and have gone on to pursue their career paths.
