Food Technology inspires her to grow
There is nothing to think about when choosing Food Technology as a career path.
This was an aspiration of Priya Prasad who believes that in food technology, food is a necessity for and it is a need for food technologists due to this.
The 32-year-old said studied Diploma in Industrial Laboratory Technology at the Fiji National University (FNU) in 2009 and the course was about food technology as well as food safety management.
“In 2017 till 2018, I also did Advanced Diploma in Leadership and Management with TAFE University but under FNU. I had achieved the Excellence Student Award for the program too,” she said.
Mrs Prasad said she was currently pursuing her Post Graduate in Environmental Health (Food Safety Management) in FNU under the College of Medicine, Nursing & Health Sciences.
She said she graduated in 2011 after completing her practical with British American Tobacco.
She then applied for work at FMF Foods Limited, where she is currently employed as the Quality Assurance Supervisor.
“Things worked out good and before I completed my six months of attachment in 2010, I was hired as a Quality controller in the biscuit Company.”
Mrs Prasad is working at FMF Foods Limited for 11 years and has played numerous roles.
“In 2010, I started as a Quality Controller till 2013 in the biscuit plant. In 2013, I was promoted to Quality Assurance Officer in Atpack (Packaging Company- Cartons, poly bags and pails (buckets)), untill 2016. Then in 2016, I was on the same position and moved to Biscuit Company and from last year till date, I am the Quality Assurance Supervisor,” she said.
Challenges
Some challenges Mrs Prasad faced at work was the upgradation of food safety standards and fulfilling its requirements.
“The new additions to the standards on how about it is going to be implemented at work site, timeframes to be met and assurance that it is done the correct way, house brand customer requirements, adhering to their standard requirements.”
