Double celebration lifts spirit of Vanuatu couple
Delmay Wilson of Ambae, Vanuatu was all smiles after she was awarded her Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education with distinction last week.
Ms Wilson was one of the 79 students who received their certificates during the graduation ceremony at the college’s Sabeto, Nadi campus on November 27.
The 31-year-old mother of one child also attained a gold medal for academic excellence in Education and an Excellence award in Early Childhood Education.
Her husband Wilson Hosea graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Theology in 2021 and then graduated with Post Graduate Diploma in Theology alongside her.
“I’m very happy. I know that our parents are happy because we come from a poor family. So, when we study we want to do our best,” she said.
An emotional Mrs Wilson said the couple resided in Port Vila and looked forward to heading back home.
“We came here with my son when he was one year old, and now he’s four, we’re going to go back on Wednesday and he’s going to start school next year. This is my husband’s and our familiy’s achievement,” she said.
“We very much excited to go home and we know that they will be waiting for us at the airport and we owe it to them , they’ve
been struggling a lot for us to come here but at least we had to get that degree and now we managed to get it.”
She said one of the challenges the couple faced while being in another country and trying to further their education was trying to juggle school and family responsibilities.
Hosea Wilson said he was grateful to be graduating alongside his wife and credited his success to her solid supports.
