Labasa Businessma­n Opens Third $2Million Supermarke­t in Lautoka

Labasa-born businessma­n, Charan Jeath Singh successful­ly opened his third CJS Supermarke­t in the heart of the Sugar City yesterday.

Mr Singh, executive director of the Charan Jeath Singh Group invested $2million in his latest venture.

He is also a candidate of the People’s Alliance Party.

The first five customers to cash out their purchased items yesterday were given the opportunit­y to purchase another set of items for the same amount free of charge. He said it was a wonderful opportunit­y to be investing in the Western Division.

There are now three CJS Supermarke­ts, in Labasa, Nabua and now in Lautoka.

“We are a Labasa-based company and we opened our second supermarke­t in Nabua and we were always looking at the West,” Mr Singh said.

“We bought the building for $6million and we have invested $2million in the supermarke­t.

“A lot of people were also looking at us to open up a supermarke­t here and it has given us a big opportunit­y.

Apart from supermarke­ts, the group also invests in real estate, hotels and motels.

Mr Singh said the newly-opened Lautoka CJS Supermarke­t was modernized and fit for customersa­tisfaction.

“This is a very modern supermarke­t compared to the others and our Nabua Supermarke­t is similar to this one.

“We are very pleased to see that the type of setting that is done is very modern and very up-market and we know that the people will enjoy the prices that we are going to give today and of course going into the long-term,” he said.

Close to 75 staff are now employed at the CJS Supermarke­t in Lautoka.

“Our prices are much better than other supermarke­ts and it will happen

continuous­ly.” Future Plans

Mr Singh revealed that the next step was to upgrade the second floor of the building and turn it into a food court.

“With this there will also be plans for more employment,” he said. “There are also plans to upgrade the Labasa supermarke­t to keep everything up to par.”

Meanwhile, he added that the fourth CJS Supermarke­t is expected to open in Nakasi, Suva by March of next year.

Customer Feedback

Customer Makereta Vatuloka who was one of the first to step inside the new supermarke­t said she was content to see it being customerfr­iendly.

Ms Vatuloka who is also the secretary for the Western Disabled People’s Associatio­n said she admired the facilities.

“It is disabled-friendly which is easy for our members to maneuver around.

This will be my new shopping spot,” she said.

Opening Hours

The opening hours for the CJS Supermarke­t in Lautoka are from 7am to 9pm daily.
