Graduation Achieved Through Divine Intervention: Bogidrau
It was her confidence in God that allowed Vasemaca Bogidrau of Lami to take a leap of faith and pursue a Bachelor of Primary Education at the Fulton Adventist University College in Nadi.
Last Sunday, the 26-year-old was one of seventy-nine students who received their certificates during the graduation ceremony at the college campus in Sabeto, Nadi. She said she was pregnant with her second child Filimoni Savou in February this year while she was enrolled in her programme. She gave birth in October.
“It was a big relief and I just want to thank God. I cannot achieve this without God because I faced a lot of problems, especially because I have a family and I was pregnant during the semester and it was so hard, but through God I did everything and I feel overjoyed,” she said.
She said her financial problems worsened when her husband was only able to secure part-time employment; however, a strong support system from her family helped her immensely.
“My family was renting and we can’t stay inside (on campus) so we had to rent outside just near the campus. I faced a lot of challenges, especially when it comes to my financial support,
“TELS supported me. My auntie also gave a lot of support, but while I was pregnant with my first child I left school, and then when I came back she paid everything,” she said. “So, having a child and being
pregnant again was so hard, but I thank God I managed to pass this thing and it’s a big challenge, but I learned a lot and I have experienced a lot and I believe it will help
me in the field.”
She urged other young mothers to tune out negativity when looking for ways to generate income and provide for their families.
“My advice is to put God first and rely on God, share everything with him and God will do everything. If you put God first, everything will fall into place,” she said.
“So, my message to young mothers is don’t look down on yourself, believe there’s one God who created you and if he can help me, he can help you.”
