Fiji Rugby Mourns the Passing Of its Development Officer
Fiji Rugby chief executive John O’Connor paid tribute to his Regional Development Officer – Region 1 (Cakaudrove, Bua and Macuata), Lemeki Savua, who passed away last week aged 42 after battling a short illness at the Labasa Hospital.
He was laid to rest on Tuesday in Savusavu.
The Fiji Rugby delegation led by the CEO paid a special tribute to Savua’s family in Savusavu.
The late Ra native contributed a lot towards the development of rugby since his appointment in 2007. He was a trainer in rugby and regional master educator in OSEP. He delivered training in Tonga, Samoa, Solomon Islands, PNG, Vanuatu, Tuvalu, Nauru, Kiribati, Palau, Guam and Fiji.
The Late Lemeki also delivered the Strength and Conditioning, coaching, admin, activate and also educator courses.
Savua was not only an integral member of Fiji Rugby but also played an important role with Oceania Rugby. He delivered Coach Level 2 and Strength and Conditioning courses to a few Oceania Member Unions. He was also part of the trainers who produced Oceania rugby Activate videos in March this year which is now used regionally and available globally. O’Connor said “Today, the rugby family mourns one of its key workers who played a vital role in developing rugby at the grassroots level. Lemeki was always passionate and dedicated towards his work hence managed to achieve a lot in his 5 years with FRU. The CEO further added “Everything is in Gods’ hand and when the call comes everyone have to leave this material world for better place.” “The thoughts of the Fiji Rugby family are with Lemeki’s wife and five children at this difficult time.”
