Spread Christmas cheer and adopt abandoned pets or treat them to a sleepover

-

Many people may not be aware of the wonderful work that the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) is doing at its Walu Bay base in Suva.

They look after dogs and cats either abandoned by their owners on the road or lost and stranded.

For animal lovers, they will understand and feel of the pain and stress that these pets go through. For others, they may not care less.

To both groups, animals are God’s creation, just like humans. They differ in the degree of intelligence with humans possessing a higher intelligence. It enables, like those at SPCA, to do what they do for the welfare of animals.

This festive Christmas season the SPCA needs help and support as it looks for assistance to give the pets in question some Christmas cheer. For animal lovers who are looking for pets, this is a great opportunity to respond to this invitation. There are five pets up for adoption. They need a home where they can destress and enjoy their time with their new owners.

The second opportunity is a “sleepover programme”. The SPCA says it allows participants to take a shelter dog or cat home for an extended weekend sleepover. It adds, it is a fantastic opportunity for its dogs and cats to get out of their kennels to destress while also gaining valuable experience in a home. For some pets it will be their first experience of home life.

The SPCA will also launch gift vouchers for desexing and hold the annual food drives.

Every Christmas, many open their hearts in a spirit of compassion. While it is customary that we exchange gifts and help the poor, destitute and the needy, this is a project that is worth our support because the pets need help. Whether we extend our hands of compassion to people or to pets, we will be acknowledged by the Creator who created the earth and all the living things on it.
