In 2018, Mohammed Alfaz Khan had an idea to start up a laundry business so it could rake in more income for his family.

The 43-year-old father of three children worked towards that dream and is today the proud owner and director of the Lautokabased laundry business - Quick Clean Laundry Services.

The former taxi driver of 13 years invested about $15,000 in his first established business which officially opened on Friday.

Mr Khan’s new business involves washing, drying, dry-cleaning, ironing, folding, bulk-cleaning and more for his customers.

“I am coming right from driving a taxi into being a businessman and it is one of life’s greatest achievements for me,” he said.

“When COVID-19 hit, it prompted me to do more and get this business going.

“The idea came to my mind where I could do something to make money fast and where it could also help me support my family.”

There were rarely any laundry businesses in the Lautoka area.

He said the new business would

help him support his wife who runs her own canteen from their Kashmir home.

Mr Khan said he had four machines operating - two washers and two dryers.

“All machines have cost me about $13,000 and about five machines are yet to arrive,” Mr Khan said.

“It is not self-service, I will be

here to operate the machines and see to my clients’ laundry.”

The charges will depend on the type and amount of laundry brought in.

Quick Clean Laundry Services is open daily from 8am to 5pm.

Mr Khan has plans to operate at 24 hours in the future.

“I also have future plans to introduce the delivery of the laundry to customers and open more outlets outside of Lautoka,” he added.

The business is located at Shop 1 Club Line in Lautoka.
