Nayago Scoops Dux Award

- VILIAME TAWANAKORO SUVA Edited by Naisa Koroi

Ebenezer Nayago was among the 98 Year Eight students from Marist Brothers Primary School (MBPS) in Suva who received their 2022 Leaving certificates last Friday.

Nayago, a young inspiring engineer, scooped the senior dux award and scored the highest marks in English, maths and healthy living.

Ebenezer, who has been accepted at Marist Brothers High School, was accompanied by his parents and proud 64-year-old best friend (his grandfather), who attended the same primary school in 1964.

The Navutulevu, Serua, native said his grandfather had been his biggest supporter and he wanted to follow in his footsteps and become a civil engineer.

“I am working hard towards that goal,” he said.

As a youngster, he thought that challenges would spare him throughout the pandemic and now at the end of his primary school years, he is grateful for all the lessons learned along the way.

“My teacher has been kind to me, the never-ending support by teaching me everything that I need to learn. Without them, I would be standing here,” he said.

“It is our last day here and a lot of memories to cherish as I move on. I feel really happy but and the same time I’m sad to leave this school.”

Ebenezer’s mother, Ada Tawake, said his son was a humble child and it boiled down to his humility, and the encouragement for him to study because the reward of hard work was success.

“We owe a lot to his grandfather. Ever since Ebenezer was born, he was there and he played a big role in Ebenezer’s life, living under his care, and we are grateful for his grandparents never ending support,” she said.

Parents inspires younger leader

Ending his final year on a good note at Marist Brothers Primary School has been a great achievement for 13-yearold Haggai Sukanaivalu.

Originally from Dagai, Nabukelevu, Kadavu, Haggai lives with his parents in Nabua, Suva.

Being welcomed as a new student leader at the beginning of the first school term this year was also an opportunity for Haggai to demonstrate the traits of being a good leader.

“Leading students in school is something big, but I have always been reminded with the words of my parents that my badge also comes with a big responsibility, and I am indebted to their support,” he said.

“My parents have been my inspiration and they have been supportive throughout my education journey, especially my mum who’s always there for me.”

He was thankful to the Lord for giving him the opportunity to lead students at school and guiding him throughout the year.

Haggai was also awarded the head boy award and for scoring the highest mark in Social Science.

Junior dux recipient makes parents proud

Year Four student Anton Fisher scooped the Junior Dux award at Marist Brothers Primary School.

Noticeably wise beyond his years and projecting a little of his comical side the young lad was grateful to his parents for all the lunch and good meals they provided him throughout the year.

“But I am happy and grateful for my mum and dad’s never-ending support. They been there for me a lot of the time,” he said.

“This award is dedicated to my parents and all families who have supported me.”

Anton’s father, Emmanuel Fisher, said the journey had been eventful for them as a family,

“Anton is a very shy but comical child, and he tries his best and we have always been supportive of his endeavours, we always advise him that whatever you do, do it to the best of your ability,” he said.

“He always holds back in letting us know how well he done in school, and he always keeps it to the last minute, but this is not new for him as he has been archiving awards since he was in Year One.”
