Baikirewa Graduates with Masters from the UK, Thanks God for the Opportunity

- JOSEFA BABITU SUVA Edited by Jonathan Bryce

When you are given the opportunity, take it! Asenaca Baikirewa embraced this motor when she moved to the United Kingdom in 2016 where her husband works as a part of the military personnel.

Every two years, they moved from one side of the UK to another as part of her husband’s work.

Though moving around was a bit of a struggle, she enjoyed the beautiful sceneries everywhere they went. While this happened, education had been always on the back of her mind.

And when they moved to Preston, she seized the opportunity to further her studies.

She hails from Lomanikoro in Rewa and she is the youngest of six siblings.

She studied at the University of Central Lancashire and within a year, completed her Masters in International Hospitality and Tourism Management.

“I’ve had that goal of getting my Masters and the UK was never in the list,” she said.

Ms Baikirewa went to school six years after completing her hospitality and tourism management undergraduate course at Brigham Young University in Hawaii.

“Being a military wife, mother and student was not for the faint hearted,” said Ms Baikirewa.

The former Suva Muslim College and Adi Cakobau School student deleted her social media accounts to help her stay focused.

Her role as a mother taught her how to prioritise.

“It is the most rewarding thing I could ever get and it has taught me patience and to multitask. I come from a working class family,” Ms Baikirewa said.

“My dad was in the military while my mother worked at Latter-day Saints church. My mother had to sacrifice to make sure we were okay in school.”

For the time being, she is at home looking after her son.
