Meet Joseph Inoke Deo, the director of Malhana Cloud Kitchen, located in Koronivia Road, Nausori tucked away from the hustle and bustle SuvaNausori corridor.
The kitchen was inspired by Mr Deo’s mother-in-law Pushpa Wati Deo, and his love for cooking.
For the last six years, Malhana Sweets has made a name for itself through its perfectly crafted laddoos.
Malhana Cloud Kitchen caters freshly-made local cuisine, coupled with Pacific and Western dishes that were missing in the Suva-Nausori corridor.
Malhana Kitchen is the sustainable arm of Pacific Recycling Foundation.
It employs 12 people.
“We are about providing healthy yet delicious food that is absent in the market,” Mr Deo said.
“While we are the destination for meat enthusiasts, we also have food available for those who have dietary preferences like gluten-free, vegan and vegetarian.
MCK is used for celebrations. Proof is in the number of bookings we are getting for Christmas and end of the year parties from individuals, corporates and schools.
What are your hobbies?
Cooking, advocacy work especially from a recycling point of view, travelling, exploring the outbacks through off road driving, and fishing.
Where in Fiji have you been to?
Labasa, Savusavu, all islands in the Mamanuca group, all the big resorts and hotels in Viti Levu, remotest part of Viti Levu in Nadroga
Navosa province right up to where Reverend Thomas Baker’s remains, and Nabutautau in Navatusila highlands, where the rest of his followers are buried.
Where in Fiji would you take visitors to?
Rotuma Island and the beautiful countryside community of Koronivia where visitors come and experience the out of city life in a farming community.
What is your favourite place for coffee/pie?
Malhana Cloud Kitchen.
Whether it’s coffee, tea or pie, the countryside in Koronivia, is pleasant enough to enjoy a cuppa.
What do you do in your spare time?
I spend a lot of time with my partner.
What is one place in Fiji that remains on your bucket list?
Levuka, the old capital of Fiji.
