Safety Concern Over Service Station Site
Nausori/Nasinu Town Council said the construction of the service station was approved as GMR had complied with all the requirements and the zoning was correct.
“I am not against development. In case something happens and there is a risk, I need to know the risk. There was no consultation done for us to be informed of the development despite living in different types of blocks,” resident Francis Shankar said.
Residents living near the construction site of GMR Muhammad & Son’s service station are raising concerns about their safety.
GMR is a hardware store in Nakasi.
One resident, Francis Shankar, questioned the municipal authorities over the safety of people living in the vicinity.
Mr Shankar asked if an Environmental Impact Assessment report was carried out.
“I just wanted the Nausori/Nasinu town council to know that we live next to the service station,” Mr Shankar said.
“I have emailed them and would like to have a copy of the EIA from them.

He said they had to call the director of GMR, Mohammed Farouk as the construction of the service station was already causing some health hazards to his family.
While it may provide services to the neighborhood, livelihoods were at stake.
Nausori/Nasinu Town Council chief executive officer Anurashika Bari said the construction of the service station was approved as GMR had complied with all the requirements and the zoning was correct.
Mr Farouk was not available for an interview despite being visited by SunBiz in regards to the progress of the construction of the service station, and contacted the company for comments via calls and emails.
