‘Financially, morally, you can help with the house chores, with her assignment. Just be there for her whenever she needs you’

Permal Gaunder, 32, has urged husbands whose wives are currently studying to offer them their full support. Mr Gaunder’s wife, Matina Maureen Lata, not only graduated with a Master of Business Administration in Human Resources Management.

She was also awarded a gold medal for most outstanding student in her course.

This was during the University of Fiji graduation at the Saweni, Lautoka campus on Friday.

Ms Lata works as a Human Resources Assistant at the University of the South Pacific.

“It was one of the proudest moments as a husband to see my wife getting the hold medal and being at an institute with USP and just working as a HR assistant,” he said. “Always give them your support.

“To the husbands out there, if you see they (wives) have a chance to enhance, don’t hold them back.

“When we talk about support there’s lots of kinds of support such as financially, morally, you can help with the house chores, you can help with her assignment and just be there for her whenever she needs you.”

He commended his wife’s commitment to her personal goals.

The couple celebrated their second wedding anniversary on December 5.

Ms Lata, 31, said: “I would advise people in the workforce that this is a very practical course and it’s very relevant to our current work that we do on a daily basis.

“My future plans are to move to a higher rank in HR and maybe a better job opportunity or better progress within USP.

“It’s been an amazing and incredible journey, I would firstly like to thank my parents, Mr and Mrs Mani Lal of Vuci Road Nausori for all their blessing, love and support and this was their dream which I have fulfilled today.

“They have been my inspiration to be able to achieve this prestigious award,” she said

“I also would like to thank my husband, Permal Gaunder for his support both morally and financially in ensuring I successfully complete my studies.

“Special thanks to my siblings, my batch mates of MBA, my friends and work colleagues at USP HR for all their love and support.”
