Ravudi Wins Middleweight Title, Will Leave it Vacant
Naitairi slugger Jese Ravudi defeated Robin Hazelman to claim the Fijian middleweight title at the Prince Charles Park in Nadi on Saturday.
Points were in favour of Ravudi with judges Jone Loloma, Fatu Timanono and Allen Harris scoring for him 98-92, 98-92, and 99-91 respectively.
“I want to thank my opponent for the tough fight and those who are here to support Fijian boxing,” Ravudi said after his win.
“This is not my weight, if you watch the fight, I punched him but he cannot feel it since he is too heavy. I will make it vacant as there are many good boxers in Fiji who can fight for it,” he said.
“I am going back to super welterweight; whoever wants to challenge me will have to come to 69kg not 72kg.
“Franco Frazer is here and if any promoter wants to make this fight go on let it happen, I am ready.”
Gracious with defeat, Hazelman congratulated Ravudi. Hazelman admitted that although he gave his best and he still needed to work on more things.
Krishnil Mudaliar defeated Junior
Farzan Ali by knockout to claim the Fijian lightweight title.
Mudaliar dedicated the win to his trainer Osea Nanovo and sparring partner Mikaele Ravolaca.
“I had fish poison but I just ran as part of my training. I was in a bad condition but I still continued with my training.
“I did not expect to get this far with Farzan, with my condition I had to cruise in between the rounds. I will continue my training; my team will decide what’s next for me.”
In the heavyweight contest, the Clash of the Titans between Jonasa Kavika and pro debutant Semi Dauloloma did not augur well as the fight ended early in the third round (19 seconds).
Match supervisor Allen Harris said: “It was a no contest because both boxers were pushing each other. It cannot end in the draw since it was not the final round.”
