Khan praises Police officers as ComPol accepts resignation
Former Assistant Commissioner of Police Abdul Khan has commended the hard work of all Police officers and the unwavering support rendered to them by their families.
Mr Khan made the comments after confirming that he had tendered his resignation to Commissioner of Police Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho on Thursday night.
In a statement by the Police Commissioner on Friday, he said that ACP Khan resigned citing personal reasons.
However, it is understood that ACP Khan’s resignation was due to a disagreement on the need for the military to be called in to assist the Police with security operations amid reports of racial tension post 2022 General Elections.
Brigadier-General Qiliho wished him well on his future endeavors and thanked him for his service.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Livai Driu the Commanding Officer (CO) Police Special Response Unit (PSRU) will take up the post of Chief Operations Officer and has been promoted to Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police (A/ACP) on Friday morning.
Former ACP Khan when contacted on Friday thanked all Police officers for the work and sacrifices they continued to show daily.
He also thanked the families of all Police officers for their support to all officers.
After 29 years in the Force, Mr Khan said he has always stood by what was right.
He also said that he has had a colourful career in the Force and wished all officers the best in the work that they continued to carry out.
Mr Khan chose not to comment when questioned about the reasons for his resignation.
Labour concerned
Meanwhile, in statement, former Prime Minister and Fiji Labour Party leader, Mahendra Chaudhry, expressed concern at the decision to call in the military to assist Police maintain law and order, saying there was no need for it.
He claimed it was significant that Mr Khan suddenly resigned following the announcement Brigadier-General Qiliho emphasised that the military was being called in to assist Police maintain law and order.
