Rayelene Bennion is the Instructor for the Department of Tourism, Hospitalit­y, Fashion and Travel at the Fiji National University’s National Training and Productivi­ty Centre.

If so, you might be wondering what kind of job you can pursue that combines your interest in the hair and beauty industry and your creativity. To make a living from your natural talent and interests, you may want to consider a career in the hair and beauty industry.

A career in those fields begins with the right training. To work in this industry, you can undertake training at specialize­d institutio­ns such as the Fiji National University’s (FNU), National Training and Productivi­ty Centre (NTPC). After completing your studies, you would attain the skills and knowledge required to excel in the industry.

At NTPC’S Hair, Beauty and Spa Academy, students will learn about the various career pathways and opportunit­ies available. No matter which path you choose to follow, your career will reflect your creativity and spark your interest daily.

The Academy was establishe­d in 2014. Due to the immense growth in the Hair and Beauty industry in Fiji and other Pacific Island countries, the demand has also increased for more certified beauty therapists, hairdresse­rs, makeup artists, and massage therapists.

To address this, the Centre is working on a refurbishe­d state-ofthe-art Hair, Beauty and Spa Academy that will be based at FNU’s Namaka Campus.

This will allow students to have access to more facilities for an enhanced student learning experience.

AT FNU, we value our social responsibi­lities and recognize the need to empower communitie­s with hair, beauty, and spa training so that they can join the workforce and have self-sustainabl­e revenuegen­erating micro businesses.

Technology has made acquiring equipment and materials easy and convenient. It has also made learning new global trends and traits accessible and fun.

FNU’s National Training and Productivi­ty Centre’s Department of Tourism, Hospitalit­y, Fashion and Travel offer training which consists of presentati­ons and discussion­s by the Facilitato­r, practical sessions, and group work. The institutio­n also provides flexible learning timelines to cater to students.
