US President, India’s PM Lead Congratulatory Messages
The President of the United States of America (POTUS), Joe Biden, led the congratulatory messages pouring in from world leaders and representatives, on the appointment of our newly-elected Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka.
“As close partners, Fiji and the United States work together to advance an Indo-Pacific that is free, open, prosperous, and secure,” the US President said in a statement released by the White
House.
“Together, we have also made progress on key challenges—including promoting sustainable economic recovery, tackling climate change, and curbing illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing.”
On Twitter, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said: “Congratulations @slrabuka on your election as the Prime Minister of Fiji. I look forward to working together to further strengthen the close and long-standing relations between India and Fiji.”
New Zealand Prime Minister,
Jacinda Ardern said: “We strongly value Fiji as a close friend and partner as we progress our shared priorities for the region.”
Also on Twitter, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said: Congratulations to @ slrabuka on his election as Prime Minister of Fiji.
“Australia and Fiji are #vuvale, family. I look forward to strengthening our countries relationship even further in 2023.”
The Chinese Embassy in Fiji said: “We believe our bilateral relations will be further strengthened to better benefit our two countries and peoples.”
Pacific Forum secretary-general, Henry Puna congratulated Mr Rabuka and the successful appointment of his Cabinet.
“As the home of the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat, the affairs of the people and government of Fiji are close to the hearts of many of our Secretariat staff and families.”
France in Fiji and the Ambassador of the European Union for the Pacific, Sujiro Seam, also sent congratulatory messages.
