US President, India’s PM Lead Congratula­tory Messages

The President of the United States of America (POTUS), Joe Biden, led the congratula­tory messages pouring in from world leaders and representa­tives, on the appointmen­t of our newly-elected Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka.

“As close partners, Fiji and the United States work together to advance an Indo-Pacific that is free, open, prosperous, and secure,” the US President said in a statement released by the White

House.

“Together, we have also made progress on key challenges—including promoting sustainabl­e economic recovery, tackling climate change, and curbing illegal, unreported, and unregulate­d fishing.”

On Twitter, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said: “Congratula­tions @slrabuka on your election as the Prime Minister of Fiji. I look forward to working together to further strengthen the close and long-standing relations between India and Fiji.”

New Zealand Prime Minister,

Jacinda Ardern said: “We strongly value Fiji as a close friend and partner as we progress our shared priorities for the region.”

Also on Twitter, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said: Congratula­tions to @ slrabuka on his election as Prime Minister of Fiji.

“Australia and Fiji are #vuvale, family. I look forward to strengthen­ing our countries relationsh­ip even further in 2023.”

The Chinese Embassy in Fiji said: “We believe our bilateral relations will be further strengthen­ed to better benefit our two countries and peoples.”

Pacific Forum secretary-general, Henry Puna congratula­ted Mr Rabuka and the successful appointmen­t of his Cabinet.

“As the home of the Pacific Islands Forum Secretaria­t, the affairs of the people and government of Fiji are close to the hearts of many of our Secretaria­t staff and families.”

France in Fiji and the Ambassador of the European Union for the Pacific, Sujiro Seam, also sent congratula­tory messages.
