Feed My People Shares Christmas Joy
Children and mothers receive gift hampers
While families nationwide marked Christmas Day in their own little way, a non-government organisation (NGO) was spreading the joy of Christmas with those in need.
Feed My People was at the Labasa Hospital on Saturday donating hampers to children and mothers who were admitted.
Team leader and founder, Mohammed Riyaz Taiyab, said Christmas hampers they provided included food packs, snack packs, toys for kids, Christmas hats and other Christmas goodies for the children and mothers.
Through, there were able to prepare. They managed to prepare 25 food packs, made possible through fundraising and contributions from the members and donor assistance.
Mr Taiyab said 18 packs were given to mothers at the maternity ward while the remaining seven were gifted to children at the children’s ward.
Elenoa Calalevu, a mother to four-yearold Nikotimo, said: “This is great for our kids as we have celebrated Christmas in the hospital, which we did not expect to, but this has boosted our spirits,” she said.
The 17-member NGO also took the time to put up Christmas decorations at the children’s ward.
“Our members were emotionally moved when they gifted these hampers to the kids,” Mr Taiyab said.
“We will continue with this in the future and every month we have monthly assistance programmes, especially in the poor settlements around Labasa.”
The Labasa-based NGO, which started its community service in August 2021, involves working members who share a common desire to help the needy.
“We thank all our donors and we request if more donors could come on board to help us reach the needy population in Vanua Levu,” he added.
