Vosarogo to review laws on land

Newly elected Minister for Lands and Mineral Resources Filimoni Vosarogo will be reviewing the legislatio­ns on land to see how efficient they are.

Mr Vosarogo said if he saw there were laws that needed to be improved, there would be amendment undertaken to meet the need.

Mr Vosarogo said these would include laws that were fast-tracked in Parliament during the eight years reign of the FijiFirst government.

“We are going to relook at every amendment that had been passed in Parliament through their last two terms or those that were done by decree from 2006 to 2014,” he said.

“We are going to have a closer look at those amendments and see what they are intended to achieve. If they are good, they will remain.

“If they do not help with the efficient running of the ministry then I would meet with my top management team on the amendments that would facilitate the efficient delivery of service.”

He said he would try to address the challenges faced by the ministry.

“I will be meeting with the permanent secretary and the management staff tomorrow (today) to have a feel of the job,” he said.

“During the meeting, I will get to hear the challenges faced by the ministry and the general public. These will be addressed as we go along.

“Also during the meeting, we will discuss the opportunit­y there are to grow the ministry and its contributi­on towards the national growth of the economy.

“More particular­ly on how efficient we can attend to people’s needs when they come and ask for a particular service,” he said.

He said there were a lot of work needed to be undertaken in the ministry.
