Bookings for speeding exceed 100 Ministerial mobile numbers

-

Ronnie Chang, Nadi

This alarming news is no longer uncommon. Land Transport Authority fines for speeding and drink driving, in my view, are far too lenient.

Offenders just will not learn. Repeat offenders could not care less.

Respectfully, I have shared my concerns on many occasions. Our penalties are not deterrent enough.

The levels of responsibilities, arrogance and downright respect for the law are worrying trends.

Please start doubling fines for every repeat offence. Three Traffic Infringement Notices (TIN) must mean licence off for 90 days.

Speeding over 100 km/hr must mean mandatory suspension of drivers’ licence, minimum 90 days. Try it, please.

Careless, irresponsible and reckless drivers do not belong behind any steering wheel.

They are menace and danger to all roadusers. Our roads must be made safer with immediate effect. More visible presence of uniformed law-enforcement officers, at random please - 24/7.

Martintar, Nadi and Denarau bypass road are a haven for speeding maniacs. Many jump red lights too.

Tukai Lagonilakeba,

Hooray! The dust have settled and Congrats to the PA/NFP/SODELPA coalition Government.

To our new Fijian PM Sitiveni Rabuka and all those newly-appointed cabinet ministers, you are now, after your swearing in ceremony at Government house; you’re every Fijians representative irrespective of their political affiliations.

Please, can all your official mobile numbers be published for the information of every ordinary Fijians in our daily newspapers?

We hope the coalition Government will live up to its many election promises for the next four years.

God bless Fiji.
