The new Savusavu municipal market will provide services to approximately 60,000 people of Cakaudrove, including yachters, tourists, and hoteliers.

Savusavu Town Council chief executive officer Seema Dutt said the construction project is on schedule to meet the one year completion deadline.

Ms Dutt said the project team was ahead of the schedule.

The team consists of a lead consultant and project engineer from Chand Engineering Consultants Limited, architect from AAPiDesign, service engineer from Building Services Consulting Engineers and the contractor is from Jenn’s Construction Pte Limited.

The ground breaking ceremony of the two storey building project was carried out by the former Minister for Local Government Premila Kumar on October 27, 2022.

“I am hopeful that the project would be complete by November, 2023 depending on unforeseen circumstances,” Ms Dutt said.

“The new Savusavu market will have a userfriendly elevator for physically challenged vendors and users of the premises.

“Ground Level will house the market vendors, coffee shops, information booth, handicraft, and kiosks.

Level one will have small micro vendors, kiosks, a conference room and three restaurants.”

The new market will also have a public convenience.

“184 vendors can sell their produce from the modern facility, with capacity and space for new vendors will be available,” she said.

“The market will provide services to the entire people of Cakaudrove, approximately 60,000 people, including yachters, tourists, and hoteliers.”

This $1 million construction project is funded by the Fijian Government and UN Women markets for change project.
