New PM welcomed at the Office of the Prime Minister

- JONE SALUSALU

The newly elected Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka addressed the senior staff and civil servants of the Office of the Prime Minister when he arrived in office yesterday.

Mr Rabuka echoed a sentiment that he had long been vocally projecting in the lead up to the 2022 general elections.

“We’re here to serve Fiji, we’re here to serve everyone in Fiji,” Mr Rabuka said.

“We will be guided by what we promised the people, and what made them vote for us.” Mr Rabuka reiterated that change and delivering on their promises are at their forefront agenda as they lead Fiji in the next four years.

“When they said change, change from what to what?” Mr Rabuka asked.

“Perhaps they saw some differences in the policies of the then Government and what we promised to give them.”

For these reasons, Mr Rabuka indicated they would like their manifestos to be woven into the policies that they would be proposing and implementing in the four years in Government.

Under this nature, he called on the staff to be co-operative and welcome the new Government. “I call on you to co-operate with us, I’m sure you will very easily do that,” Mr Rabuka said.

“Because you have done that for the last eight years since we’ve had an elected Government.”

“I’m sure, I’m not worried. I know you will continue to do your work as honourable, not members of the house, but honourable civil servants who have vowed to spend your time and energy serving the people of Fiji.”

Assistant Minister

Similar sentiments were echoed by the Assistant Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister, Sakiusa Tubuna.

“Thank you sincerely for the great work you have done so far, tireless effort in always being ready to serve Fiji no matter which Government that leads us,” Mr Tubuna said.

“I’m here to work in partnership with you all.”

Mr Tubuna advised the staff in attendance to remove any elements of uncertainties and fear they may have.

“We always emphasise the significance of consensus dialogue and inclusivity,” he said.

Permanent Secretary

We need your leadership.

This became a constant message shared by the Permanent Secretary for Office of the Prime Minister, Yogesh Karan.

“We are very grateful, for your leadership, your wisdom and at the time that we want the whole country to be united, exclusiveness as we have been seeing you in office the last couple of days,” Mr Karan said.

Mr Karan presented to Mr Rabuka the senior officials at the Office of the Prime Minister.

“I can confidently say that we have a team that can deliver beyond expectation,” Mr Karan said.
