Change and reaffirmation of a new dawn: Ministers

- JONE SALUSALU

Newly-elected ministers have echoed similar encouraging sentiments as their New Year’s message, saying ‘change’ and ‘reaffirmation’ of a new dawn. Minister for Finance, Strategic Planning, National Development and Statistics and also Deputy Prime Minister, Biman Prasad acknowledged the supporters of his party and those who voted for them since day one.

“I take this opportunity, not only on behalf of the National Federation Party, but also on behalf of the Government,” Mr Prasad said.

“My ministry wishes all the people of Fiji a very happy New Year and also wishes them a bright future.

“We look forward to working with everyone, we look forward to hearing the voices of our people and we look forward to delivering the best to the people of this country.”

Meanwhile, this newspaper’s front page yesterday had the headline – “Let Love Shine”. It was a policy of genuine message projected by the newly elected Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka.

This same message was a triumph of repetition also for the newly elected Minister for Rural Maritime Development and Disaster Management, Sakiasi Ditoka. “Vanuinui vinaka vei kemuni kece (I wish all of you well),” Mr Ditoka said. “We have now come to a stage where we have come to an agreement for the coalition Government. “We now stand ready to serve the people in the New Year. I wish all families around the country a happy New Year, those in our 14 provinces; I wish them the best for the New Year.”

SODELPA party leader Viliame Gavoka attributed the sentiment saying stability, dialogue and proper governance will be their forefront agenda of taking the nation in the next four years.

Mr Gavoka urged Fijians to take the long weekend break to have a break from all the busy schedules and spend more quality time with their families.

“My message to the country is to enjoy your holidays, enjoy your country, there’s a new beginning, a new dawn for Fiji,” Mr Gavoka said.

“Whatever inhibited you is now gone, you were born free, you enjoy the country as a free person.”
