To have a better and healthier lifestyle, it is important to keep up with a proper diet. For Laurence Brattin-Nerrière, eating healthy and staying fit is one of the best ways to prepare her family for the year 2023. Mrs Brattin-Nerrière, is the Deputy Head of Mission for the French Embassy in Fiji. She plans to buy more local fresh fruit and vegetables in the new year.

“As you know non-communicable diseases are on the rise and we should eat more fresh fruits and vegetables,” she said.

She also said: “On the topic of NCD’s, the French Embassy with other stakeholders will be hosting a Roundtable on NCD’s in January next year (2023).

She said she was blessed to stay in Fiji with her family.

“First of all, my experience in Fiji has been great. I arrived in the country in august 2021 with my family,” Mrs Brattin-Nerrière said. “I have two children, a daughter aged 3 years old and a son aged 13-years-old. I discovered the Pacific for the first time since I was based in Niger, an African country prior to this.

“I was in the capital, Niamey, for three years where I served as a political advisor

for the French Embassy there.”

She said being part of Fiji Islands and waving another great year goodbye was an honour to her and her family.

“I am glad that I will be based in Fiji until 2024, so this means I get to celebrate the entire 2023 with my family in Fiji,” she said. “I really love Fijian food, especially Kokoda. I really like how the fish is prepared in this

dish. I have never tasted something like this before.

“This is one memory I will take back when I return to France and I hope I will be able to cook my own version of it as well.

“Another food I like is the sweet candy from the Northern Division. I recently visited the North and I tried this candy for the first time. It is very unique and the taste I liked very much. I was told it was made with sugarcane juice.”

Mrs Brattin-Nerrière also said she looked forward to discovering more of Fiji in the new year.

“I was blessed to visit the Northern Division. It was very beautiful. The people were very friendly and helpful as well,” she said. “This time I want to take my family there. My family and I have also visited Pacific Harbour and Nadi. I have heard that Fiji has some of the most beautiful and luxurious island resorts in the world as well.

“We plan to visit some of the resorts as well and experience what they have to offer. We also plan to do a roundtrip of Viti Levu as well soon.”

She also said the French Embassy in Fiji aimed to make 2023 better by creating and building more new connections with young influencers and minds in the country. “Young people that are excelling and contributing a lot in their respective fields. We were so fortunate enough that we have worked together with people such as Roshika Deo, Aneet Kumar, Komal Narayan, Leslie Tikotikoca, Eve Naqio, Abdul Mufeez Shaheed, Ms Rhonda, Avaneesh Raman and Suzanne Turaganiwai, just to name a few.”w
