Meliki Qio had to shelve her dream of becoming a neurosurgeon to become an entrepreneur to get to where she is today.
She owns a home-based business that specialises in Fijian handicrafts, particularly unique customized contemporary pieces using locally sourced materials.
Ms Qio said she faced her challenges by choosing to move on.
She said she decided to travel to Kadavu to help with getting ideas on how to use traditional resources to run her business and it was upon her return that she opened a business called “Cohesion Investment”
Ms Qio said being a high school dropout and unemployed she felt her call from God was in the field of handicraft making.
“My dream was to actually be a neurosurgeon, the study of the brain really fascinated me and science was my thing. but here I am now.”
She started her business through her first sale in 2021.
“It’s been challenging having to pay for the rent, to maneuver through all these things but we’re managing,” she said.

Denarau. As the largest tourist hub in Viti Levu there’s almost nothing you can’t do on
Denarau.
What is your favourite place for coffee/pie? Coffee Hub. They serve quality food and the quantity is worth it.
What do you do in your spare time?
Overlooking the sea on my own and enjoying the scenery.
What is one place in Fiji that remains on your bucket list?
Taveuni. It is a hidden paradise with great people and good food.
