Tuivuna aims for Fiji PGA 2023 Order of Merit

Fiji’s top pro golfer Tomasi Tuivuna is aiming a back to back win on the Fiji Profession­al Golfers Associatio­n 2023 Order of Merit this season.

The 40- year –old claimed the Fiji PGA 2022 Order of Merit earning 13408.3 points in 14 starts.

“It is great to be clinching that title,” he said.

“As a profession­al golfer I am over the moon with a lot of events organized by FPGA with an abundance of sponsors.

“The more the merrier and I hope to repeat this new season.”

The Suva based pro won the Labasa Open,

Girmit Open, Suva Open, Rum and Co ProAm, Swire Shipping Pro-Am, Ron 69 Pro-Am, Ba Open, Suva Open, Two and Rum and Co titles.

Lautoka’s Ronnel Prakash finished in second spot, with 9533.3 points followed by Zoheer Ahmed (8775 points) for third spot overall.

Fiji’s top profession­al Sam Lee has returned to South Korea and joined the South Korean Army and is likely not to return.

Fiji PGA treasurer Amitesh Chandra said last season was a great success and hopes to continue into the new season.

“Last year we hosted tournament­s worth $100,000, but this year we hope to hold bigger tournament­s with the support from our sponsors. The objective is to host 15 tournament­s,”

he said.

The three players includes tertiary student Prashal Chandra, businessma­n Nilesh Chand and former Ba Open Champion and national rep Lotawa Delana have received their provisiona­l Fiji Profession­al Golfers (Fiji PGA) Tour Card for the 2023 season.

The trio was part of the group of amateur golfers who participat­ed in the Fiji PGA QSchool (qualifying school) tournament for the 2023 season at the Denarau Golf and Racquet Club Course in Nadi last month. Chandra said that meant they needed to finish in the top 15 of the 2023 Fiji PGA Order of Merit (OOM) to retain their card for the 2024 season.
