Power Disruption to Queen Elizabeth Drive
Energy Fiji Limited (EFL) has advised that there was an unplanned power outage at 10:45am yesterday, Wednesday, January 4, along Queen Elizabeth Drive (QED), part of Laucala Bay, Muanikau Road and the Damodar City complex. This power outage resulted from a contractor working for the Fiji Roads Authority (FRA) causing damage to underground power cables along Queen Elizabeth Drive, said EFL.
The damaged underground power cables had been isolated and power supply restored to majority of the affected customers by midday. However, the following areas are still without power because of the damage: CEPAC Seminary, Corpus Christi College and Pacific Theological College (customers along QED between Muanikau Road junction until Vuya Road junction).
Repair works on the broken power line are expected to be completed this morning, Thursday, January 5, said EFL. EFL has had multiple discussions with the FRA and their road upgrading contractors following numerous earlier instances of damage to EFL underground power cables caused by FRA contractors.
“Contractors continue to damage our power cables, resulting in unplanned power outages to our customers are of great concern to EFL. Apart from inconveniencing our customers, such damage demonstrates a reckless disregard for the safety of the workers involved and members of the general public.” EFL requests drivers and machine operators to exercise caution while driving and maneuvering vehicles to avoid causing damages to EFL assets resulting in unplanned power outages to our customers. “Anyone causing damages to the electricity infrastructure will be dealt with according to the law.
“The EFL apologises for any inconvenience caused to all affected our valued customers due to this unplanned power outage which was beyond our control.
