Probe Starts to Find Mole: PM
There is allegation of a mole, or certain personnel leaking confidential Government information from the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM).
This was revealed by Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka during his tour of the Northern Division.
He said investigations had started to identify the mole.
Mr Rabuka said confidential information about the operation and agenda of Government and things pertaining to the Constitutional Offices Commission (COC) matters had been leaked from the OPM. Mr Rabuka said it would be difficult to identify the person or those within the OPM who were allegedly involved.
He said they did not know whether there were security measures inplace for the electronic transmission of information from the OPM to outside sources.
“It is sad that this has happened and it throws the idea of the divided loyalty among staff in the OPM,” Mr Rabuka said.
Mr Rabuka said the investigating team must be sharp with its assessment of suspicious staff to check whether they were loyal to Government or had divided loyalties. On numerous occasions during the tour, Mr Rabuka acknowledged the effective development by the Bainimarama Government.
Rights of a child
Meanwhile, during the talanoa session at Yaroi Village in Savusavu, Mr Rabuka responded to a question by a man on the rights of a child.
“In Fiji, the rights of the child are interpreted as the banning of corporal punishment from schools, but that was not necessarily the meaning,” he said.
He reaffirmed his Government’s commitment to ensuring child’s rights were heard and if there was a need to have more laws to protect children, they would consider this.
