- SIMIONE HARAVANUA SUVA Feedback:simione.haravanua@fijisun.

Kadavu and Koro are top priority on American Seafood Company Bumble Bee list for its $10,000 sports grassroots programme this year.

Programme coordinator/sponsorship manager Malakai Yamaivava during the signing of the deal at the Holiday Inn, Suva yesterday said the two Eastern division islands are been eyed for this year’s list.

“The funds we receive goes directly to the development that we want to work on this year,” Yamaivava said.

“We have new islands to visit this year – Kadavu and Koro have been on our radar for a while.

“The island of Kadavu has been grooming good rugby players and we believe that we should give something back to the villagers and introduce other sports as well. “Since Koro is situated close to PAFCO, Levuka; visiting the island means Bumble Bee in giving back to communities within the vicinity.

“Part of the sports programme is that we visit the schools and villages; the sponsorship caters for the sports equipment, logistical costs and administration for the whole year.

“We have other villages for the teams to visit this year, to be able to do that we thank the sponsors for their support.

“In the last four years we have visited Viti Levu and Vanua Levu; at the start of the programme back in 2019 the first place we visited was Nacula in Yasawa.

“After Nacula we visited Macuata, Cakaudrove, Ovalau, Navosa. “This year we need to visit Kadavu and Koro (Lomaiviti) to complete the 14 provinces.

“We keep moving forward and don’t revisit places that we have visited already.”
