Tikoduadua: RFMF Never on Red Alert

- NACANIELI TUILEVUKA SUVA Edited by Maikeli Seru

The Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) was never on red alert, said the Minister for Home Affairs Pio Tikoduadua. While confirming this on Thursday, Mr Tikoduadua said the country was never in a particular level of threat post-election for the military to be on red alert.

He said RFMF Commander Major-General Ro Jone Kalouniwai assured him that everything was normal.

“Besides the ongoing work that Police do in the ordinary course of their duties, the general law and order situation in Fiji is normal,” Mr Tikoduadua said.

He said people in Fiji continued to work and live peacefully.

“If any citizen is aggrieved, they can be assured that the rule of law is paramount. Any threats to that will be dealt with swiftly and with full force of Fiji’s law enforcement agencies.

“Anyone, whether his or her position is high or low, is equal in the face of the law. I trust the Fiji Police Force will hold true to its duties on this matter,” he said.

He said Major General Kalouniwai had assured him that he shared Government’s vision for a peaceful, prosperous and a secure Fiji.

“He has briefed me on the status of the demilitarisation of the civil service and he has assured me that all soldiers employed in the civil service have returned to the barracks.

“He has assured me that all arms that were used for personnel protection of the former ministers and the chief justice have been accounted for and are back in the armoury. “The Commander has been instrumental in the transition and his respect for the rule of law, our institutions and the peaceful transfer of power is highly commendable. “I will visit the headquarters of RFMF at Berkley Crescent and Queen Elizabeth Barracks in Nabua. This after I had received an invitation from the commander,” he said.
