One of the first and arguably the most important steps towards getting a call for the interview and then eventually a job the process of preparing a Bio-Data. It is, in a way, an important development towards providing a proper and professional reflection of you and your various educational, professional and talent-related attributes.

Through this and future columns I wish to share some significant ways of making your Bio-data powerful and positive towards helping you to get the interview –call!

1. Always be clear and honest about the ‘OBJECTIVE & PURPOSE’

Before you actually writing or typing your bio-data you must clarify the following:

• What job or position are you applying for? • Apart from the HR personnel, who would be the other people such as the senior managers reading your bio-data before the interview and during the interview as well?

• What are you planning to highlight and prioritize in it that will help you get the call for the interview and also will make the interviewer understand you in a better and positive way.

2. Concise & Structured

A fundamental rule while preparing your bio-data is to ensure that you don’t make it ‘bulky & bloated’. The Bio-data must be well structured, sensibly precise and cautiously concise. In some of my training sessions on this subject I make the participants learn and practice the art of making their bio-data precise & concise. Remember, today’s world is a busy world and the more ‘to the point’ you are the better it will be for you to at the call for the interview.

3. Highlighting and Appreciations

Apart from stating various aspects about you, namely your qualifications; you must highlight specifically upon those actions or feats you have accomplished for which you have been specially recognized or formally appreciated. When you highlight upon certain and specific positive things it makes the interviewer drawn to it quickly. Highlighting can be done by typing it in ‘bold’ or/and by underlining it as well. Remember, your special and specific accomplishments must ‘STAND-OUT’ in the biodata.
