Aged care homes soon for Malaqereqe­re, Sigatoka and Vuda, Lautoka

Two groups of individual­s living abroad are interested in setting up all-aged-care homes in Fiji to target those coming in from abroad. Nadroga-Navosa Chamber of Commerce and Industries president Dr Ashank Naidu revealed this during the Caregiving School of Excellence graduation in Nadi on Saturday night.

caregivers in big numbers because we don’t expect this to be small projects, but big ones.

“This is a good thing to take on medical tourism in Fiji because it has a relatively pollution free environmen­t and mostly nice weather compared to the environmen­t factors faced abroad.”

Thirty (30) participan­ts graduated as the pioneers in Certificat­e in Caregiving and First Aider in conjunctio­n with the Fiji Red Cross. “It is important for caregivers to continue to develop throughout

their career because it is for everyone’s benefit,” he said. “Caregivers will be utlised very well in this current COVID-pandemic as they can assist doctors and nurses whenever needed.” Dr Naidu is also part of the Approved General Practition­ers – PPP GP Schemes.

He would hire some caregivers to be part of his clinic where he would continue to make sure that capacity building continued. Caregiving School of Excellence director Muni Kamni Reddy said the institutio­n was to help the caregiving industry and personnel.

“Here with us they study to become qualified caregivers. We teach the right techniques, right procedures; right care to the elderly as they are vulnerable people with attention and good care. We need quality support,” she said.

Ms Reddy thanked Fiji Red Cross for certifying the participan­ts as first-aider too.
